About Us
Districts participating in this service will receive support
for multimedia guidance software applications designed for
use by middle and high school guidance counselors, students
and parents to search for schools, occupations, careers, educational
opportunities and financial aid.
Career and Guidance software - more than
just college searches
As the New
York State Learning Standards for Career Development and Occupational
Studies (CDOS) focus more on career planning and exploration,
software distributors are following suit with new and expanded
product lines. In addition to using a set of criteria to narrow
down post-secondary options, many programs now offer a career
development curriculum and electronic portfolios. Students
are able to take assessments and inventories to determine
their strengths and interests. The programs connect those
results to careers and post-secondary opportunities. Counselors
and school-to-work coordinators can utilize printed curriculum
and materials for further study.
New Product Watch
This fall, the LHRIC will have a representative from Embark.com
present their internet based product, the Education and Career
Opportunities System (ECOS). This program helps students explore
their post secondary opportunities.
