Black
Holes: Gravity's Relentless Pull - This Hubble site introduces
Black Holes by presenting an interactive, in-depth exploration of
the astronomy and physics of black holes, probably the most extreme
objects in the Universe. The site offers astronomical images, animations,
interactive experiments, and an encyclopedia of accurate, up-to-date
information. The site shows that even the most mysterious of things
can be understood through scientific inquiry.
Site in Depth / Curriculum
Integration
- Investigate the basic concepts about physics, astronomy and
science in general, including light, gravity, and the scale of
our Universe by researching in the Black
Hole Encyclopedia.
- Take a Journey
to a Black Hole on the Electronic Whiteboard. Drag the viewfinder
around the night sky to locate and identify various objects in
the universe.
- Take a trip to the center of the Andromeda Galaxy and drop in
on the Black Hole - or to insure your return trip home, just orbit
around it. On the way, make note of the celestial objects you
pass. When you arrive at the black hole, note how your view is
distorted by its gravitational pull. Write a class Wiki or Blog
about your journey, the objects you see, observations on time
and distance, etc.
