Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids
- Tobacco's Toll: 644,086 kids have become regular smokers in 2006. 206,108 will die prematurely from their addiction. What is being done to change these statistics? This organization is a leader in the fight to reduce tobacco use and its devastating consequences in the United States and around the world. It strives to change public attitudes and public policies on tobacco and to prevent kids from smoking, help smokers quit and protect everyone from secondhand smoke.

Site in Depth / Curriculum Integration

  • Read and share personal stories at Voices Against Tobacco. Students take oral histories of people they know whose lives have been touched by tobacco.
  • Plan activities for "Kick Butts Day" , March 28, with the class.
  • The tobacco industry spends more than $12.4 billion per year - over $34.1 million a day - marketing its deadly products in the U.S. - Tobacco Advertising Gallery - Have students collect tobacco ads and discuss their agenda, meaning and impact. Have students create anti - tobacco ads.
  • Should Congress give the FDA authority to regulate tobacco products? Debate.
  • This Site of the Week is dedicated to the memory of all those who died from lung cancer caused by smoking.
