Life in Elizabethan England: A Compendium of Common Knowledge 1558-1603 - Read about everyday life in Tudor England - food, occupations, games, pastimes, religion, fashion, manners, attitudes, and education in the time of Queen Elizabeth I and Shakespeare.

Curriculum Integration

  • After research, students assume the role of a citizen in Elizabethan England and write a description of "a day in the life". They should include a variety of aspects of Elizabethan life which is presented the website.
  • Compare the geography of Elizabethan England to contemporary England.
  • Play the online Historic Costumes Game or the Elizabethan Spying Game from the BBC.
  • Game challenges - Words, Words, Words from the Folger library
