Smithsonian Source - Resources for Teaching American History - This site contains teacher developed resources to enhance the classroom experience of students. Find primary sources, video, lesson plans and DBQs. The historical topics covered include Colonial America, Civil Rights, Invention, Native Americans, Transportation and Westward Expansion.

Site in Depth / Curriculum Integration

  • Bringing Life to History through the display of primary source artifacts in the museum's collection is the goal of the site. Choose a theme to further research and collect additional artifacts and primary sources students find on the Internet to bring life to that study. Display in a Powerpoint presentation.
  • The images of primary sources on this site can be used as handouts - have students research the image and write its historical story.
  • View details of Teaching with Primary Sources for use in the classroom.
  • Students complete a DBQ exercise.
