Cartoon America - This Library of Congress exhibition of The Art Wood Collection of Cartoon and Caricature contains more than 36,000 original cartoon drawings. The collection of Wood, an editorial cartoonist, includes political illustrations, gag cartoons, comic strips, illustrations, animation, and caricature.

Site in Depth / Curriculum Integration

  • Students research and investigate editorial cartoons and learn to identify the event portrayed and the opinion expressed.
  • The traditions of political cartooning combine commentary with wit and detailed artistry. After conducting research on cartooning, have students create cartoons which follow in this tradition and which expess their own point of view.
  • Class creates their own space on such Internet sites as BubbleShare or Slideshare and uploads their cartoons.
