Description (September 25, 2005)

10 x 10 (TenByTen) - This site presents news as an interactive exploration of events in words and pictures. It runs autonomously, scanning the RSS feeds of leading international news sources, gathering important global information and presenting it as a grid of images, encapsulating current moments in time.

Each hour is presented as a picture postcard window, composed of 100 different frames, each of which holds the image of a single moment in time. It is simple and intuitive to use. Clicking on a single frame allows us to peer a bit deeper into the story that lies behind the image. In this way, you can explore the news, the individual stories, and the ways in which they relate to each other.

Curriculum Integration

  • This grid is a "snapshot" of the world's top stories. Decide if repeated pictures indicate importance. Research this using these major news outlets: BBC World Edition and New York Times International. Have the class develop a daily presentation of the top stories.
  • Sample lesson plan using 10x10
