Lego Robotics Explored at Summer Workshop.
Albert Robinson, a professional developer at Fordham University's Regional Educational Technology Center, looks over the shoulder of Steve Giglio, a math, science and technology teacher from Blind Brook Middle School, during the workshop, "Introduction to Lego Robotics," which was part of LHRIC's Summer Technology Institute. Beside Giglio is Diane Frawley, a technology teacher at Harrison High School. The full-day presentation talked about building and programming robots using Lego equipment and software, as well as discussing the opportunities for students to become involved in clubs and competitions across the region. Local school districts interested in learning more about the Lego Robotics Program should contact Leslie Accardo, Model Schools coordinator, at 592-4203 ext. 406 or by emailing laccardo@lhric.org.

OTHER SERVICES

The Generation YES program provides schools with the necessary curriculum in setting up a student technology program that will provide ongoing technology support to teachers & administrators in their schools. Students work along side a trained Gen Yes teacher in completing a technology project but more importantly learn the skills needed to lead a project from start to finish.

The Writers in Electronic Residence program enables students to improve their writing skills by participating in an experience that encourages their development through online feedback from other student writers and by the comments and mentoring of professional writers assigned to them for a full semester. This program supplements a high school or middle school language arts curriculum by bringing outside professional expertise into the classroom. Students are mentored by published authors and a full set of online resources for students and teachers is provided by WIER Orientation and support is provided for teachers.
