Regional Coordinators Role
The Lower Hudson Regional Information
Center along with its component districts has identified a need for
improved communications with its client schools. In order to facilitate
this improvement, we have created the Regional Coordinator positions
for the LHRIC.
Overview
One Regional Coordinator is designated for each BOCES region. The Regional
Coordinator is responsible for making contact with the key individuals
in each district to provide a single point of contact for communication
with the LHRIC. The Regional Coordinator actively listens to district
needs and concerns and follows up with appropriate personnel at the
LHRIC. The Regional Coordinator also proactively delivers guidance and
pertinent technology information to district leadership. One of the
most important functions of the Regional Coordinator is to guarantee
the quality of LHRIC services by monitoring service delivery standards.
Benefits
This new organizational configuration provides schools
with:
- A clear method of communication with the LHRIC
through a single point of contact
- A guarantee of quality service through regular
monitoring and follow up
- An informed guide to LHRIC services and related
issues
- A resource for informal planning and guidance
and the sharing of pertinent information
Reporting
The Regional Coordinator reports to the Directors
of the LHRIC(Peter Reilly and Jim O'Brien) but maintains regular contact
with BOCES District Superintendents and/or his designee. The position
is financially supported on a proportional basis by all LHRIC services
and is not self-supporting.
Structure
In the past the LHRIC has tried to provide the benefits
outlined above through the existing position of Project Manager. There
are a number of factors that work against the existing Project Manager
role being successful at achieving these goals on a consistent basis.
First, the Project Manager is assigned only to districts with active projects,
leaving districts without projects no easily accessible point of contact
with the LHRIC. Second, Project Managers bill for their time. It would
be inappropriate to bill districts for the non-project, communication
functions previously outlined. Third, the Project Managers plan, manage,
and execute scores of detailed actions which take away from the individual's
ability to focus on issues outside of the project at hand.
