The LHRIC offers a cost-effective, user-friendly
videoconferencing service. Instructional videoconferencing provides
students and teachers new opportunities for authentic learning and
a means to differentiate instruction. Videoconferencing can facilitate:
collaborative projects with other schools, virtual field trips
to museums, cultural institutions, and educational institutions around
the world, guest lecturers, staff development, demonstrations,
and simulations/role playing.
The service includes quality control, help desk support, web access to
resources, user meetings, and an electronic forum. This innovative
service is supplemented by professional development and consulting
services to ensure that districts make strategic and instructionally
sound use of this exciting technology. The LHRIC will look
to develop professional development offerings with our BOCES partners,
as well as other providers. Technically, the service will
be IP-based videoconferencing with a centrally managed firewall. Bridging
and gateway services enable IP to ISDN videoconferencing connectivity
to various ISDN-based districts and worldwide content providers and
multi-point conferences. |
